New head of cyber security appointed

We are delighted to welcome Jeremy Jones to a newly created role at Theta, Head of Cyber Security.

Recently returned to New Zealand from the UK and Europe, Jeremy has more than fifteen years’ experience influencing and implementing information security strategies in multilateral government and military environments. He has defended some of the most advanced and secure networks in the world and participated in cyber security initiatives and operations at the highest level.

Says CEO Rob Lee:

“Cyber security is topical and timely. It’s high on the Institute of Directors’ agenda as one of the most important things to get right. We are already seeing increased interest from our customers in this area, and are pleased to now have someone of Jeremy’s calibre on the team to lead cyber security initiatives.”

The New Zealand cyber security context

Cyber threats facing New Zealand are continuing to increase, and according to the latest NCSC Cyber Threat report were up 78% on the previous year. In this report, the National Cyber Security Centre says:

“The trend towards greater adoption and expansion of digital services creates more targets for malicious cyber actors, who are in turn focusing on cyberspace in greater numbers and with increasing skill. Cyber security is now an important part of ensuring New Zealanders continue to enjoy the prosperity and wellbeing that cyberspace has enabled.”

Cyber security has been identified as a national priority. The government-led cyber security strategy and action plan provides a framework for the public and private sector to improve New Zealand’s cyber security, by achieving cyber resilience; building cyber capability; addressing cybercrime; and enhancing international cooperation. At Theta, we see an opportunity to be part of that work.

Cyber security, smart solutions, sustainable results

Cyber security is an integral part of the smart and innovative solutions we develop for our customers. Says Theta’s new head of Cyber Security, Jeremy Jones:

“Our vision is to ‘bake in’ cyber security regulatory requirements and best practice into everything we do, both in the solutions we develop for our customers and across our own systems. This in turn will drive sustainability, innovation and growth.”
