Te Tiriti O Waitangi
As a country, New Zealand supports the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It is particularly relevant to all Kiwis, as Māori hold a special status as our indigenous people, tangata whenua, people of the land.
As a company, we recognise, respect and support The Treaty of Waitangi and seek to adopt the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi - Partnership, Participation, and Protection - into our business practices.
We promote inclusivity and diversity throughout our workplace and seek to provide focussed professional opportunities to members of the Māori community seeking careers in IT.
Our history
One of our founders, Matt Owen, still works in the business – as does our first ever staff member. And of the four customers we had when we started out, three are still customers.
We acquired Tauranga-based cyber security firm Cybersmart, bringing strong relationships with Palo Alto Networks and Juniper Networks.
We acquired Wellington-based IT firm Inhouse BI, specialists in Microsoft Power BI and SAP Business Objects.
In 2019 we completed our fourth significant acquisition of Ellerslie-based Microsoft Partner, Designertech.
Opened an office in Tauranga in 2017.
We opened our Christchurch office in 2015, to support an existing South Island customer base.
We acquired MicroStrategy specialists Indigo in 2014, and SharePoint experts IGA systems the following year, enabling us to grow these areas of the company.
The acquisition of Wellington-based Prophesy and opening an office in the capital in 2011 were the first steps towards a more nationwide presence.
In 2002, we updated our company structure with the appointment of a managing director and our first independent director. Steve Saunders became our first CEO in 2007, and current CEO Rob Lee took the helm three years later.
We have an office now – four in fact! In 2000, we moved into Theta’s first premises, in Auckland’s Albert Street. Three years later we had outgrown that space and signed the lease on what is still part of Theta HQ today, in Beresford Square.
Theta began back in 1995, when five independent contractors, with a prod in the right direction from Steve Saunders (who went on to become our first CEO, from 2007-2010) got together to form a company. We called it a “virtual company” back then, thinking that sounded better than saying we didn’t have an office.
