Microsoft Dynamics NAV: quick entry
In this second short tutorial in the series (did you try the first yet?), Hector Parada shows you how to navigate more quickly and flexibly around Microsoft Dynamics NAV. So grab a coffee and learn a new NAV trick…
Today’s tip is the “Quick Entry”. Often, when I am reviewing processes in the system with other NAV users I am surprised by the way they navigate across the document fields: either they press Tab or Enter lots of times or they use the mouse to find the important field to type in. Date entry can be optimised by the use of the “Quick Entry” setting.
So what is the “Quick Entry” feature and how is it useful? By letting us select the fields we want (or don’t want) to jump into in NAV, navigation becomes faster and more flexible. Let’s see how it works…
Let’s try with a Sales Order Document. You can customise the “Quick Entry” by clicking in the application menu, then select “Customise” and then “Customise This Page…”
Click on “FastTabs”, then select the one that you like to optimise to navigate to and press “Customise FastTab…”
There, just below “Importance” is the “Quick Entry” tick box.
You just need to enable this tick box for the fields which need to be populated and disable it for the ones you want to review but not edit. In my example, I disabled “Quick Entry” property for all the fields except for “Sell-to Customer No.” to “Order Date”. So now when moving around my Sales Order Page I will jump from “Sell-to Customer No.” to “Order Date”:
Remember that this functionality works only pressing “Enter”. If you press “Tab” NAV will just jump to the next field.
If you use a particular NAV document frequently, I encourage you to customise this function and see how fast you can enter a document!
And once you've completed data entry, remember you can use F6 to jump to the lines.
